FORMER Huddersfield Town manager Steve Bruce was attacked after disturbing two men who seemed to be trying to steal his daughter's car.
Bruce, 43, now boss of Premiership club Birmingham City, suffered cuts and bruises in the assault outside his Warwickshire home early on Saturday.
He was left shaken, but not seriously hurt.
It happened after the car's alarm went off and he went to investigate.
In a statement, Birmingham City chairman David Gold said: "We are horrified by this act of senseless violence.
"The club will support Steve in whatever way we can to ensure the culprits are brought to justice.
"Steve has asked us all to make as little fuss as possible."
City spokesman Andy Maxey said the attack is thought to have been the work of "opportunist thieves".
