Thieves have struck in an early morning raid at a Co-op store in Linthwaite – and police are checking if there are links to a similar raid on another Co-op in the Huddersfield area almost two weeks ago.

Police were called after reports of a disturbance in the area and found the front window of the Manchester Road premises had been smashed.

Officers cordoned off the store and waited for the store security to arrive after alerting.

And police investigating the burglary which happened at 1.45am today are seeking three male suspects who fled in a white car.

It is believed a haul of cigarettes were stolen and further checks are being made with staff this morning to confirm whether anything else was taken.

The raid comes nine days after a similar burglary at the Co-op store in Holmfirth.

Det Insp Stef Wiseman of Kirklees CID said: “We are seeking three suspects who are travelling from outside the Huddersfield area who may have fled in a white car.

“This latest incident is similar to another burglary on May 12 at Holmfirth Co-op and we are considering whether the two are linked.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
