MOBILE phones were stolen by opportunist thieves in Huddersfield on Monday.

The first incident happened at about 1am in Leeds Road. A 33-year-old man was walking home chatting on his phone when a mixed race woman aged between 18 and 20 grabbed it out of his hands and ran off. She was wearing a tracksuit and trainers.

The second theft took place in Keldregate, Deighton, at 1pm.

A 36-year-old man was again speaking on his phone when it was snatched from his grip.

The suspect was described as an African Caribbean man aged between 18 and 20. He as 5ft 10ins tall, slim and wore a dark hooded top.

Pc Dave McSweeney of Huddersfield police advised users to stand with their back to a wall when using a phone in the street.
