STAFF were threatened during a robbery in Milnsbridge today.

Two men wearing black balaclavas burst into Milnsbridge Liberal Club on George Street at about 12.30am, as staff were locking up.

The men - one with a hammer and the other with a knife - threatened a 53-year-old man and a woman of 60 and demanded to know where the safe was.

The thieves emptied the safe and smashed a games machine, stealing the cash inside.

They left with a substantial amount of cash.

Their victims were unhurt, but left very distressed.

Det Con Steve Shaw, of Huddersfield CID, said: "There were no vehicles heard, but there may have been one parked nearby.

"We would like to hear from anybody who witnessed anything."

The robbers are white, 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in tall.

One was stocky and wore a grey jumper and white trainers, with no socks.

The other was believed to have been wearing grey Reebok trainers.
