A TEENAGER is urging thieves to return his girlfriend’s vital college work which was stolen from his car.

Zak Hinchliffe, 19, had his car broken into while he and girlfriend Anna Faraday were in Pizza Hut at the Odeon cinema, off Bradley Mills Road, at 6.30pm last Wednesday.

It was Zak’s birthday and Anna had given him a polarizer lens for his camera, a framed photo of the two of them and clothes. They locked the presents in the boot, along with Zak’s work clothes, his iPod music player and Anna’s college bag.

But thieves smashed the car window, gained entry, pulled down the rear seats and took the items from the boot.

Zak, from Crow Edge near Holmfirth, said the most important thing is to get back Anna’s bag, which contains all of her work for her art course at Barnsley College.

She has spent hundreds of hours over the past two years creating the drawings, paintings and illustrations by hand and was due to hand them in by February as part of her final exam.

The coursework was in a black hardback book and an A5 blue notebook, both contained in a Rip Curl black and khaki back, with white writing on the front pocket.

Zak, an administration apprentice for Kirklees Council legal services, said: “Everything else I can replace. The main thing is getting Anna’s coursework back.

“She has been putting in a lot of hours of work. There are no copies, it has all been done by hand. She is really upset.”

Zak said the incident had marred his birthday celebrations.

He said: “It was not very nice. I came out to the car to get something and saw a policeman stood there, and a broken window. The car window cost £70 to fix and my insurance will now go up.”

Det Con Russ Conlon, of Huddersfield police, said it was usually recommended to lock items in the boot when you leave your car.

He warned people to be vigilant and look out for people watching them as they move belongings to the boot.

He added: “These thieves have been quite determined in this case. It is generally a good idea to put things in the boot. People just need to be aware of who might be watching.

“If anyone has information about break-ins concerning cars in Huddersfield we would like to hear from them.”
