A motorcycling guard of honour led a funeral cortege for road tragedy victim Stefan Warner.

The 30-year-old suffered fatal injuries when he was involved in a collision between his bike and a car in Leeds Road, Bradley, on April 2.

And on Wednesday family and friends gathered to pay their final respects – surrounded by a fitting motorcycling tribute involving more than 30 bikes.

Stefan’s sister, Fay Warner, said: “He loved bikes and when a close friend suggested to our family about having bikes at his funeral we thought it was a fitting tribute to him.

“It started off with just a handful of bikes and as word spread we had people asking if they could ride.

“In the end we had over 30 bikes.

“There were motorbikes, trikes, off-road bikes, scooters and even pedal bikes.

“Superbikes were his favourite but he used to buy any he liked the look of and do them up.

“Our dad was a mechanic and he passed away when Stefan was just eight years old but Stefan had always been into bikes.

“I’m not sure when he passed his test but even before that he was into pedal bikes.

“He used to buy the parts on eBay and then look up how to fit them.”

Stefan, who previously lived in Fartown, was also a dad to two-year-old Maddie and Fay said he was a fantastic dad.

Fay added: “He was always laughing and joking. He had an outgoing personality and had lots of friends.

“There were hundreds at his funeral.

“He was very close to his younger brother Marcus. They were more like twin brothers as there was only a year between them.”

Stefan’s funeral was held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Sheepridge and at Huddersfield Crematorium, Fixby.

As well as Maddie, he is survived by his mother Jackie, sister Fay, brother Marcus and two nephews.
