BAND Aid 20 might have stormed the charts again this Christmas but some younger charity rockers are hot on its heels.

Jack Nicholson, 17, and Josef Sykora, 18, have created a Christmas anthem of their own to raise money in memory of Jack's late father Ian.

He died in September 2001 of a brain haemorrhage and Jack set up Nicholson Memorial Concert Fund to help fund neurological research in memory of his father.

The Rastrick High School sixth form students decided to record the CD with all their pals singing a line each just like the famous Band Aid song.

The pair, from Greetland, managed to write, record and mix the 7-minute track in little more than a week.

Jack said: "Some people think we have done this because of the Band Aid 20 single but the idea just came to us one day. It had nothing to do with that.

"We put posters up to invite people to sing a line each and we had a great response.

"More than 40 students, teachers and even one dinner lady sang on the CD. It was one of those things that could have gone either way but in the end it has worked out excellently."

Now Jack, who has already held two concerts to raise cash for the fund, is planning his own version of Live Aid.

"Next summer we are putting a massive gig on at the Piece Hall in Halifax - we could have up to 4,500 people there," said Jack, who is studying media, music and English language.

"We have already booked a couple of bands and we are talking to a big name that will be announced shortly."

Already sales of the CD have topped £250 and Jack is hoping to sell more in the run-up to Christmas.

"We have used classic rock tracks like Summer of `69 and Hey Jude for the medley and then sung our own Christmas lyrics over the top," he added.
