Thornhill Community Academy celebrated last night after scooping the prestigious Best Documentary Series prize at the National Television Awards.

Pupils and teachers shared the red carpet with the country’s leading performers.

The school choir opened the live ITV show before watching their teachers step on to the London O2 stage to collect the award for the hugely popular Educating Yorkshire.

It was described by critics as one of the most heart-warming programmes of 2013, when teacher Matthew Burton helped pupil Musharaf ‘Mushy’ Asghar overcome a stammer.
