A BRIGHOUSE couple - former directors of Exeter City Football Club - have been in court accused of fraud.

Ex-chairman John Russell, 49, and wife Gillian, 48, and former vice-chairman Mike Lewis, 63, from Swansea, appeared before Exeter magistrates.

The men were charged with conspiracy to defraud, obtaining a financial advantage by deception and carrying on a business intending to defraud creditors.

They were granted bail and will appear before Exeter Crown Court next Friday.

Mrs Russell, a former employee of the club, faced one charge of theft of £20,000 and one of false accounting.

She was bailed and will appear before the magistrates again on February 24.

All the offences were alleged to have been committed between April, 2002, and May, 2003.
