A home owner awoke to discover his two cars had been driven off his driveway in Brighouse.

Seconds earlier suspects had forced entry to the house in Lightcliffe Road and stolen both sets of car keys.

Calderdale police are now investigating this crime and linking it to another similar incident in the area at around the same time.

The crimes happened in the early hours of yesterday morning at houses in Lightcliffe Road, Brighouse and Cecil Avenue, Lightcliffe.

The cars stolen from Lightcliffe Road – a Peugeot 308 and BMW 5 Series – have since been recovered.

But a Audi A4 with personalised registration D2 SPB is still missing.

Det Insp Chris Wood from Calderdale CID said: “We received reports of two instances where car keys have been stolen during a burglary and suspects have driven off in their vehicles.

“In one of the incidents the homeowner heard a bang and went downstairs to check it out before realising that both cars had gone from his driveway.

“In both incidents there was no contact with the suspects.”

A 28-year-old man from Bradford has been arrested on suspicion of the offences and is being interviewed.

These offences are often called Hanoi burglaries, named after specialist Operation Hanoi to crack down on crimes where the suspects sneak into homes and steal car keys before driving off in vehicle.

Anyone who spots the stolen Audi is urged not approach the suspect but to contact Calderdale CID on 101.
