THREE cars have been stolen after thieves broke into homes and took the keys.

A green Seat Ibiza - number P29 PYG - was stolen from Savile Road in Skelmanthorpe at 3.20am today.

And just over 30 minutes later a green VW Polo - number N227 BWU - was taken from outside a house on Southfield Road in Almondbury.

And early yesterday morning a VW Golf was stolen from Lepton the same way.

It was found in Barnsley.

Police have again urged people not to leave car keys on show at home.

Modern anti-theft devices, such as immobilisers, have made life tough for car thieves.

So now they peer through house windows - and if they see car keys on tables or hanging on hooks they break in, grab the keys and drive off in the victim's vehicle.

Det Con Brin Taylor, of Huddersfield CID, said: "It is important that people always hide their car keys.

"Never leave them on view at home.

"Put them in a drawer or take them upstairs with you at night. That can be all it takes to thwart a theft."
