A MAN killed in a motorcycle crash was a traffic policeman.

Three men remain in custody today following the death of Pc Ian Walker.

The 50-year-old was riding to work when his bike was in collision with a Nissan Almera on Bolton Road in Bradford at 6.40am on Wednesday.

He worked at Lawcroft House police station in the Bradford North police division.

The commander for that area, Chief Supt Allan Doherty, said: "Ian will be sadly missed by all those who were fortunate to know and work with him.

"His family are naturally devastated, but are enormously grateful that he was happy at work and at home and that he was surrounded by a close circle of friends and colleagues who he respected and in turn respected his professionalism, commitment and dedication to duty.’’

Pc Walker joined West Yorkshire Police in March 1980, serving in the Chapeltown, Killingbeck and Weetwood divisions in Leeds in a variety of uniformed roles, including patrol, traffic and community policing.

He transferred to Bradford in November last year as a traffic officer.

He leaves a fiancee and two children.
