Two nineteen-year-old women and a 25-year-old man were taken to hospital in the early hours today following a road traffic accident.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Blacker Road and Edgerton Road at 1.30am.

Huddersfield Fire Station watch commander Andy Blackburn said the injured man who was a front seat passenger in a blue Audi A3 taxi suffered head and internal injuries.

One of the women in a white Vauxhall Corsa suffered a severe shock while the other received  leg and pelvic injuries.

The taxi driver and another male passenger were unhurt.

He said: "Such was the force of the impact that the Corsa embedded itself through a wall and into some trees. We had to take the wall down and extricate the injured parties who were taken to Leeds General Infirmary."

The road was closed for several hours while fire and police attended the scene.
