The Conservative leader had little time for questions during his visit to Meltham.

Here’s what the press were able to ask:

Q: Examiner readers want more cash for local road investment: what are you going to do to help the local council improve the roads?

A: “We are putting in extra money into our roads, we’ve the biggest growth programme since the 1970s. There has also been the pinch point fund available for local councils to sort out particular local issues.

“And, of course, things like the New Homes Bonus is there for councils like this one, that have been building some new houses, to spend on problems as they arise and make sure the transport is there.”

Q: Will the Conservatives offer a similar pledge to Labour to introduce a Yorkshire Minister?

A: “I want all my ministers to think about Yorkshire..I want all ministers to be thinking about this rather than pushing ministers into a silo which I think Ed Miliband plans would probably do.

“We’ve got very strong plans for Yorkshire... the Leeds City Deal is twice the size of the London deal in terms of money and resources. We’ve record investment going into road and rail so I think you can see a government that has got a strong term economic plan for Yorkshire and Humberside.”

Q: What support are you able to give the families of those affected by two Dewsbury teens who have travelled to Syria?

A: “There is a role for the police, our border forces, we’ve confiscated a lot of people’s passports... frankly this is something we need everyone to help, we need schools, colleges, universities, communities and families – everyone needs to join in this fight to stop the poisoning and radicalisation of young minds.”
