A YOUNG man vandalised a Holme Valley post office in a rage over a roll of Sellotape.

The thug threw the tape at staff and damaged a greetings card rack in the incident at Honley Post Office yesterday.

Sub-postmaster Brenda Bodenham was behind the counter with her husband Duncan as the bizarre episode unfolded at 11am.

She said: “A young man came in and bought a roll of Sellotape for £2.50 and used some of it to tape up a parcel which he then posted.

“He went out to go up to the Co-op to buy some milk when he realised he hadn’t any money left.

“He came back and said we shouldn’t have charged him for the Sellotape.”

The man then threw the partially used Sellotape at Mr and Mrs Bodenham.

She said: “Fortunately there’s a glass screen at the counter. I’m very glad of it, if it hadn’t been there I reckon he would have come over and throttled us.”

The thug then vandalised the shop.

Mrs Bodenham said: “He made quite a lot of mess throwing greetings cards and gifts around the shop.

“He damaged a card rack but I’ve managed to bend it back into shape. Some of the cards were damaged as well so I’ve chucked them.”

Mrs Bodenham, 53, chased after the vandal as he escaped on a bike towards Eastgate.

“I was quite scared but when I get scared I go after someone. I didn’t manage to catch him,” she said.
