THURS PM: Castle Hill pub plans refused

KIRKLEES councillors have refused the latest planning application for a pub on Castle Hill.

KIRKLEES councillors have refused the latest planning application for a pub on Castle Hill.

The latest application by the Thandi brothers in the long-running saga was refused by seven votes to three by Kirklees Council’s planning committee in a 90-minute meeting at Huddersfield Town Hall this afternoon.

More than 100 people gathered in the public gallery for the application.

Many clapped when any of the nine speakers who backed the plan spoke.

Four people spoke against the application.

The plan was refused on the grounds that there were no very special circumstances which would allow the development to take place on green belt land.
