A purpose-built nursery opened with a bang.

A fireworks display was held to mark the official opening of Tiddlywinks Nursery at Deighton – while Kirklees councillor Jean Calvert was on hand to cut a ribbon.

The nursery has moved out of its long-established home at the Deighton Centre into their purpose-built nursery on the site of Christ Church CE Academy at Deighton Road.

The children watched the building of the new nursery with interest – from the early excavations to the building being “craned” into place. They even made books about the work – some of which were on display for the opening event.

The interior of the nursery was designed in conjunction with staff while the building was constructed to blend into neighbouring woodland.

The new building is expected to help forge stronger links between Tiddlywinks, the academy and the Playmates playgroup, which is also located on the site.

Tiddlywinks provides 15 hours of free childcare for three and four-year-olds as well as eligible two-year-olds. It also offers full day care or half-days for children not eligible for a free place.
