FIREFIGHTERS spent three hours tackling a fire at a Huddersfield timber yard.
Sparks from a planing machine which developed a fault set fire to sawdust in ducting at 11.50am yesterday .
The ducting led to a large hopper and articulated trailer at Ellis Hill timber and joinery suppliers at Leeds Road in Deighton.
There was an explosion inside the 20ft-high hopper and the fire then spread to the articulated trailer.
This was covered with a plastic tarpaulin which melted.
Firefighters from Huddersfield, Mirfield and Brighouse tackled the fire and then used large fans to clear the smoke.
Crew manager Wayne Ogden, of Huddersfield fire station, said: "There were three separate fires when we arrived, so we called for immediate back-up.
"The fires were extinguished quickly, but we then had make sure they were fully out by checking the ducting and the sawdust in the back of both the hopper and the trailer."
No-one was injured in the fire.
