AN after-school club has organised an unusual fundraising event.

And a major food company has stepped in to make sure the taste is just so.

For Oscars - based at Scapegoat Hill Baptist Chapel, next to Scapegoat Hill Junior and Infant School - is having a pig roast.

Two pigs will be roasted - and Paxo has given masses of sage and onion stuffing.

The event will be at The Piggeries on Longwood Edge, Longwood, from 1pm to 7pm on Sunday, August 14.

Roast pork sandwiches will be served all day and there will be entertainment from two country and western bands.

There will also be pony rides, a bar, a bouncy castle, face-painting, raffles and a tombola.

Family tickets cost £10 and the price includes a large roast pork sandwich and a drink for each person.

Oscars chairwoman Carrie France said: "Even if it rains there is plenty of cover at the site, so people won't get wet."

She said Oscars takes children from several neighbouring Colne Valley junior schools, including those in Golcar.

A free taxi service picks the youngsters up from other schools and takes them to the club.

Anyone who would like tickets for the pig roast, which is in aid of the after-school club's funds, should call 01484 640120, 07931 755996 or 07745 221237.
