WOMEN and girls are today urged to sign up for Race For Life.

The popular three-mile run to raise money for the Cancer Research charity returns to Huddersfield's Greenhead Park this summer.

And this time the Examiner is on board as media partner in the event.

For the first time, the race is over two days, to accommodate the large numbers of runners and walkers.

Last year Huddersfield's event, supported by Tesco, raised more than £121,906 for life- saving research.

Nationally, 2004 was a record breaker as 409,000 women raised £21m through their efforts.

A total of 2,500 women took part in Huddersfield.

This year the organisers are hoping for twice as many.

Race organiser Elyse Kirkham says: "I was absolutely delighted with last year's fundraising success.

"Every penny will be towards preventing, treating and curing cancer."

The Greenhead Park race has been set for Saturday and Sunday, June 18 and 19.

A total of 162 Race For Life runs will take place from May 4 to the end of July, with fundraising likely to top £23m.
