Maureen Brown, of Marsh, studied her family’s past and found that her great-uncle was a woodman on the Cannon Hall estate at Cawthorne.
She also found out that an ancestor died in the Huskar pit disaster in 1838 aged just eight. Twenty children drowned when the mine at Silkstone Common, near Penistone, flooded.
