SHOPPERS will be able to park for free in Huddersfield, Holmfirth and Dewsbury at certain times in the run-up to Christmas.

Late-night shopping will begin in Huddersfield on November 18, when the Christmas lights are switched on.

Parking will be free from 4pm.

In Holmfirth, parking will be free for the lights switch-on - which is on November 27 - and also on the four Fridays in December from noon.

There will also be free parking after 2pm for market days in Dewsbury on each Wednesday before Christmas and for the lights being switched on on December 4.

Kirklees town centre manager David Wyles said: "The free parking is great news for shoppers across the area in the run- up to Christmas.

"In Huddersfield, it means that people can enjoy late-night shopping without having to worry about paying for parking.

"It is ideal because it allows people to go home after work and still go out shopping to get gifts.

"The free parking also includes Sundays."

All off and on-street council parking is included in the scheme.
