OWNERS of a public toilet block in Rastrick could soon be flushed with retail success.

Plans to turn the toilets in Bramston Street into a florist's shop were approved by Calderdale Council.

The former council-owned toilets, next to Bramston Street recreation ground, were bought by businesswoman Carolyn D'Agostino.

Development cannot go ahead until a parking space for three cars is finished.

A second planning condition means the shop can only open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

The unused toilets have recently been a target for vandals.

But some residents fear that turning them into a shop will attract more vandals.

However, council officers said it could have the opposite effect.

Residents also felt three parking spaces proposed for the shop were not enough.

They also claim visibility would not be good enough from the car park and customers would park on the roadside, creating a traffic hazard.

They want the council to consider introducing double yellow lines, resident only parking areas, a pedestrian crossing and traffic calming measures.

Some also called for the toilet block to be converted into a bus shelter.
