TOP ska band The Selecter are to headline at a free festival in Ravensknowle Park in September.
The Selecter, whose hits in the late 70s and early 80s included On My Radio and Missing Words, will top the bill at the Timeless festival.
The acts on September 6 also feature dance group Fingathing, The Freestylers and The Bays.
The event, which costs £25,000, has been organised by Dalton, Rawthorpe and Moldgreen regeneration group Dram.
Huddersfield record label Chocolate Fireguard is co-ordinating the festival.
And local young people in the Dalton Rawthorpe and Moldgreen areas are being invited to get involved.
Lyndon Peasley, public relations co-ordinator for Huddersfield Pride, which is also involved, said: "We are finding that music is a good way to involve young people.
"The line-up is really diverse with contemporary groups, and going back to the 50s, 60s and 70s."
Two stages will be set up - a large stage for the main acts and a smaller Clocktower stage in the Cloth Hall monument, for younger unknown bands. Short films will also be screened by Short Circuits.
Mr Peasley said he wanted people aged 16-24 to help stage the event.
The spokesman said one of the aims of the festival was to alert young people to the amenities that the park offered.
"Many do not see the park as somewhere they can go."
