GARDEN guru Graham Porter is spreading the word at a series of free design workshops.

Green-fingered Kirklees residents are being invited to meet him and gain some top tips at the events over the next two months.

He will be providing the answers to various gardening problems, from making the most of layout and design to creating a wildlife-friendly environment.

Whether your garden is formal or informal, large or small, high or low maintenance, sunny or shady, people can reap the benefits of Graham's advice.

Graham, the Examiner's gardening columnist, turned to verse to promote his efforts.

He said: "Make your garden work for you, with help from me and an idea or two.

"Be inspired to design your land and I'll be there with a helping hand.

"Paths, ponds and arbours too, our ideas will help you through.

"Trees and shrubs and bulbs as well, and one or two plants with a lovely smell."

People are invited to bring along photos of their garden, plus a rough sketch of the layout, as well as any ideas of how they would like to transform it.

The first workshop will beat Dewsbury Library on Wednesday, February 28, from 7.30pm to 9pm.

There will also be workshops in the libraries at Holmfirth, Lindley, Cleckheaton, Denby Dale and Marsden during this month and March.

All the workshops are free, but pre-booking is essential.

Phone the appropriate library or call in person.
