BRIGHOUSE and Rastrick Brass Band has been voted Band of the Year 2011.

The band – 2010 and 2011 Yorkshire Champions and 2010 and 2011 Champion Band of Great Britain – secured 23.6% of the votes cast by the users of the online Brass Band website 4Barsrest.

Additionally, Prof David King, Brighouse and Rastrick’s charismatic professional conductor, was voted conductor of the year. An overwhelming winner, with 35.3% of the votes, the Australian takes the 4BR Award for the third time to add to his accolades of 2001 and 2003.

2011 was a very busy year for the band which saw B&R not only retain the national titles at Bradford’s St George’s Hall and London’s Albert Hall but also claimed the Saddleworth Whit Friday honours as the most successful band on the night out of approximately 120 bands.

They were also in the prizes at the English National competition and at the British Open Championships.

The band will be in Huddersfield on January 28 for a charity concert at Huddersfield Town Hall.

They will share the stage with the 90-strong Halifax Youth Choir, raising funds for the Mayor of Kirklees’ charity the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.
