He’s done it the hard way.

Top doctor Alistair Morris has pushed his body to the limit to complete an extreme version of the national Three Peaks challenge.

The consultant paediatrician at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, scaled Britain’s three tallest mountains and cycled between them in just four days, grabbing only a few hours shut-eye between each segment.

Not only did he take on the multiple challenges non-stop, he deliberately made it harder by selecting mountaineering or rock climbing routes in favour of the more beaten paths.

Dr Morris, who is also a top endurance athlete and adventure racer, raised more than £5,600 having completed the task in four days, four hours and 52 minutes.

The epic effort was all in aid of breast cancer charities who supported his partner following her diagnosis last year.

He said: “My effort was is some ways similar to what happened to us since the diagnosis.

“It is a long journey so you mentally take it in manageable stages.

“There are good times and bad times and there is laughter and tears.”

Dr Morris said the Facebook comments from colleagues, friends, family and others kept him going when the going got tough.

One family he met on a campsite at the start even put him up in their home and did a street collection for his cause.

By the time he reached the West Highland Way he feared his saddle soreness would not tolerate the bumpy terrain and along with the weather, headwinds and bad rain.

He added: “For me, getting the sleep I needed was essential. After the first day I only had three hours so the second day I really struggled, falling asleep on a park bench.

“After that, I made sure I got the sleep I needed and the challenge became more enjoyable.

“I am thrilled to have raised so much and I couldn’t have done it without so much support.”

The 41-year-old said he got the best views from Scafell in Cumbria where the clouds lifted long enough for a photo.

But Ben Nevis was shrouded in fog and rain and the summit was still deep in snow.
