WEST Yorkshire's fire chief has joined the presidential team of the Chief Fire Officers' Association.
Phil Toase, who has been in charge of West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service since 2000, has been the association's policy director for fire safety and standards for three years.
His appointment as second vice-president for 2004-5 means he will become president in 2006-7.
He will also become chairman of a new Practitioners' Forum set up to advise central Government and key ministers on future policy.
He said: "My election is a great personal honour, but one which reflects even more credit on the high esteem shared nationwide for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service."
