NEW pension credits for old people have come under fire in Huddersfield.
Tories on Kirklees Council condemned the new system as too complicated.
Many people would be put off applying for cash, they added.
Clr Andrew Palfreeman said: "This is just another gimmick from a Labour Government which pretends to help pensioners.
"In reality, so many will be put off from claiming that it will only help a minimal number who manage to wade through the bureaucracy.
"On top of that, there will be the cost of employing extra civil servants to administer the bureaucracy the Government introduce," he added.
Batley and Spen Labour MP Mike Wood said half of all pensioner households stood to gain an average of £400 a year.
He admitted: "The scheme could be simpler.
"But there is a system with a free phone number aimed at tackling any problems."
