A TORY politician came to Huddersfield to see two thriving schools.

Shadow Children’s Minister Tim Loughton joined local politicians for the visits to Castle Hill School and New-some High School and Sports College.

He also visited two schools in north Kirklees as part of a fact-finding mission.

Mr Loughton had a chat to Newsome’s new head, Paul Gittins, and then visited the nearby Castle Hill School.

This is one of two new special schools built by Kirklees Council and boasts the most up-to-date facilities for the children and staff.

Conservative councillor Jim Dodds, the Kirkllees Cabinet member for children’s services, said: “Visiting the New-some campus allowed Tim to see a high school which had a poor record for discipline and behaviour that has been greatly improved by Mr Gittins.

“He also saw the fantastic facilities at the newly built Castle Hill School.

“This is an award-winning school and a model for the kind of schools we would like to see built under the Government’s Building Schools for the Future initiative. When education can be provided in top-class buildings I think this can have a major impact on both the enthusiasm to both teach and learn.

“It can only lead to improved academic attainment, which is what this council aspires to for all our children.”
