Ahead of the drama of the Tour de France, a street theatre extravaganza is due to take over Huddersfield town centre.

On Saturday July 5, visitors will be able to enjoy more than 20 performances from the best troupes from UK, Europe and Australia, with 13 more exciting acts strolling around the centre.

Five sites across the town - New Street by Wilkinsons, New Street by Imperial Arcade, The Piazza, John William Street and Byram Street - will host the street theatre, noon-5pm.

In John William Street, the Crockery Juggling Show will take place, and for a taste of the Med, head to Bryam Street.

Senzo Tempo will perform Capricho, a sensual Mediterranean story about water as a source of pleasure and rivalry - with added comedy as Artizan's hapless castaway tries to escape in Desert Island Discs.

If you head to New Street, by the Imperial Arcade, you'll see a battle for a place on the road between a street dancer and a BMX biker in Roadworks, and outside Wilkinson’s men should watch out for rootin’ tootin’ cowgirl Calamity Jane, because she’s looking for a boyfriend!

The Piazza will host the Kawa Circus, and Jason Maverick's mime, robotics and circus skills show.

And a taste of of Le Tour will takeover St George's Square with Squirt and Shirt - a competitive cycling activity where somebody is sure to get wet.

And at the Packhorse Gallery, all the family can help to create a bike-inspire mosaic and have fun with other craft projects to support the racers.

The action-packed day of street theatre is part of Hypervelocity, commissioned to run from July 2-6 as the grand finale of the Yorkshire Festival.

The Festival is the first arts and cultural festival to run alongside the Tour de France in its 111-year history.

As well as the street performances, food and drink festivals will be held in St George's Square and in Holmfirth, with big screens showing all Le Tour action.

Brightly coloured flags will decorate Holme and Holme Moss and an there will be an outdoor gallery at St Peter's Gardens in Huddersfield.

And two of Huddersfield's most iconic structures - Emley Moor Mast (Arqiva Tower) and Victoria Tower at Castle Hill - will be illuminated to mark the iconic race's passage though Kirklees.
