Of the hundreds and thousands of people who turned out to see the Tour de France today only a select few got to see this view.

The West Yorkshire Police helicopter, now known officially as NPAS Carr Gate, was out over the area this morning.

Giving support to ground units and monitoring what was going on below the helicopter covered miles of West Yorkshire unencumbered by road closures, traffic delays and the huge crowds who lined the route.

They didn't just stay in Leeds but instead zoomed across our skies making sure the route was clear for the big race.

The pictures above were tweeted by the helicopter's own Twitter account, @NPAS_CarrGate, which has almost 19,000 followers.

And don't worry it wasn't the pilot taking his eyes off the sky, the pictures were shot by a member of the duty crew onboard.
