Cycling stars are gearing up to take on the first every Tour de Yorkshire next month.

A total of 18 teams have signed up to the three-day race in May, including the newly formed Team Wiggins.

Top row:

  • BMC Racing Team — California-based UCI World Tour team sponsored by bike manufacturer BMC Switzerland. Current team time trial world champions and ranked second in the world in 2014. Its 2015 roster is made up of cyclists from 11 different nations.
  • Team Sky — British UCI World Tour team based in Manchester and sponsored by BSkyB. Bradley Wiggins won the 2012 Tour de France for Team Sky, and Chris Froome, his runner up, went on to win the 2013 Tour. Wiggins has retired from Team Sky to form Team Wiggins.
  • Cofidis — French UCI Professional Continental Team sponsored by Cofidis Solutions Credits. Its team roster features cyclists from France, Sweden, Spain, Canada and Belgium, and former pro Lance Armstrong was part of the team before he was diagnosed with cancer. He was stripped of his Tour de France titles in 2012 following a doping scandal.
  • Cult Energy Pro Cycling —Danish UCI Continental Circuits team established in 2000 under the name of Cycling Horsens, sponsored by Cult Energy. The team features riders from Denmark, Britain, Germany, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg and Sweden.

Second row:

  • IAM Cycling — Swiss ICI World Tour team founded in 2013, sponsored by Swiss investment management firm IAM Independent Asset Management SA. Managed by former French road race champion Serge Beucherie, it has riders from Switzerland, Austria, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Australia, Germany, Colombia, Italy, Spain, Latvia and the USA.
  • MTN-Qhubeka — South African UCI Professional Continental team — Africa's first. The team has been invited to take part in the 2015 Tour de France, where the team will make history as the first African registered team to take part. As well as South African cyclists, the team also has riders from Norway, the Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, Britain, the USA, Australia, Eritrea, Belgium, Algeria and Italy.
  • Team Europcar — French UCI Professional continental team sponsored by Parisian car rental company Europcar. The team has also been known as Brioches La Boulangère, Bonjour, Bouygues Télécom, and Bbox Bouygues Telecom. Its riders are predominantly French, with one rider from Namibia, one from Canada and one from Japan.
  • Team Giant-Alpecin — German UCI Professional Continental team sponsored by shampoo manufacturer Alpecin and bike manufacturer Giant. It's team members hail frm Germany, Belgium, France, the USA, the Netherlands, China, Sweden, Slovakia and Austria.

Third row:

  • Team LottoNL-Jumbo — Dutch UCI World team sponsored by Dutch supermarket chain Jumbo and the country's national lottery. The team has riders from predominantly from the Netherlands, with additional team members from New Zealand, Belgium and Germany.

  • Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise — Flemish UCI Professional Continental team sponsored by Balloise Insurance. The team has all-Flemish cyclists and is sponsored by Eddy Merckx Cycles, currently using its flagship EMX-525 bike.

  • Team Roomport Oranje Peloton — Dutch UCI Professional Cycling team that only hires Dutch cyclists in the hope of developing young riders from the Netherlands. Founded in 2014, the team are sponsored by Roompot Vakanties, a Dutch holiday company and Orange Platoon.

  • ONE Pro Cycling — British UCI Continental Circuits team launched this year, owned by professional cricketer Matt Prior. The team's aim is to join the UCI World Tour within five years, with it's team of British, Polish and Danish cyclists.

Fourth row:

  • NFTO Pro Cycling — British UCI Continental cycling team founded last year. NFTO stands for 'Not For The Ordinary'. The all-British team won the 2014 British National Circuit Championships and the 2015 National Criterium Championships.
  • Team Wiggins — British UCI Continental team founded by Tour de France 2012 winner Bradley Wiggins last year. He formed the team to facilitate his return to the track ahead of the 2016 Olympics. Sponsored by Sky and British Cycling, Team Wiggins will make its debut at the Tour de Yorkshire.
  • Madison-Gensis Cycling Team — British UCI Continental Cycling team sponsored by bike manufacturer Gensis and managed by former national champion Roger Hammond. Made up of British, Irish, and New Zealand cyclists, the team are known for using steel-framed bikes, instead of the carbon fibre frames used by most cycling teams.

Fifth row:

  • JLT-Condor — British UCI Continental cycling team sponsored by the Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT) group of insurance brokers and run and owned by Condor. The mostly-British team features double Olympic champion Ed Clancy as well as cyclists from Ireland and Australia.
  • Team Raleigh-GAC — British UCI Continental team founded in 2010 and sponsored by bike manufacturer Raleigh, which supplies the team. The team has British, South African, French, Polish and Finnish cyclists on its roster.
