It's cycling — but not as we know it.

Long before the days of lycra, helmets and mountain bikes, cycling clubs in Kirklees looked very different.

The Tour de France was in its infancy, men wore flat caps instead of proper helmets, and tandems were commonplace.

We've looked in the Kirklees Council archives to reveal what cycling looked like more than 100 years ago, with some of the images in our gallery dating back to 1910.

Images include members of Batley Cycling and Tandem Club, Dewsbury Cycling Club and sports day bike races.
