Top cyclist Sir Bradley Wiggins is heading to Huddersfield.

The star rider has confirmed he plans to ride in the Tour de Yorkshire in May.

The race, which will be run over three stages, will see many of the world's top riders descend on the town.

The race follows the success of the Tour de France Grand Depart in the county last summer.

Wiggins, the 2012 Tour de France winner will leave Team Sky at the end of April and lead his own Team Wiggins developmental squad.

Wiggins confirmed the three-day race in Yorkshire will be among his first events with the team.

The 34-year-old missed last year's Tour de France having been overlooked for the squad by Team Sky.

Stage 3 of the Tour de Yorkshire includes a stretch covering Denby Dale, Holmfirth, Meltham, Marsden and Scapegoat Hill.
