A big music festival tied in with the Tour de France has been cancelled.

Organisers of TourFest, planned for Lockwood Park, have blamed wet weather over recent days and a poor forecast for the decision but ticket sales were also poor for the event.

They had hoped 2,000 people would attend the festival from July 4 to 6 at the home of Huddersfield Rugby Union Club, just yards from the race route.

Organiser Donal O’Driscoll said: “This has been an incredibly tough decision to make. The time invested in organising this event goes into the hundreds of hours since last August. All those who have already booked with us will get a full refund”.

The decision follows a meeting with committee members of Huddersfield RUFC, who own the venue. There were concerns about the state of the rugby pitches with recent rainfall and more expected next week.

A club spokesman said: “The amount of rain was certainly one of the main considerations for agreeing to cancel the event, but it was in combination with a number of other factors including volume of tickets sold to date”.
