MIRFIELD councillors are going walkabout in their town, to see where improvements are needed.

Parks and recreation grounds will be among the places visited by the town's three Kirklees councillors on Saturday.

They hope to chat to passers-by during their day out, to find out their views.

Clr Martyn Bolt said: "The three issues identified by residents for our consideration are young people, community cohesion, and the environment.

"This walkabout will allow us to meet people and look at ways in which our town's amenities can try and help address some of the problems raised."

Mirfield Town Council members have been invited along.

Sites to be visited include Sunnybank Ponds, Old Bank Rec, Southway Park, Stocksbank Rec, Bankfield/Old Quarry Site, West Mills at Battyeford, Knowl Park, Mirfield Showground, Memorial Park and Croft House, Upper Hopton.

Clr Bolt said: "As far as I am aware, such a project has not been undertaken by any other area committee or town council in Kirklees."
