A TOURIST attraction popular with Huddersfield people has won a top award.

The National Coal Mining Museum at Caphouse Colliery, near Grange Moor, won the Tourism for All category in the White Rose Tourism Awards.

The museum was also shortlisted in the categories for Conference Venue of the Year and Large Visitor Attraction of the Year.

Winners of the White Rose Awards - run by the Yorkshire Tourist Board - were presented with their prizes by sport and tourism minister Richard Caborn in Leeds.

Awards were presented to winners of 14 categories.

These included ones for hotels and guest houses, tourist information centres, caravan parks and customer service.

Ten of the winners, including the mining museum, will now compete in the Excellence in England Awards - run by the English Tourist Board - next spring.
