THE family of a British tourist missing for more than a week in Australia celebrated the news she had been found safe and well.

Frances Embleton, 24, walked into a police station in Sydney following an extensive appeal to trace her.

She disappeared just hours before she was due to attend her own farewell party ahead of returning to England.

There were reports Miss Embleton, of Harpenden, who was at the end of a year-long working holiday in Australia, had lost all her money gambling in a casino.

In a statement, New South Wales Police said: "A 24-year-old British tourist missing for over a week has been found safe and well on the Central Coast.

"The woman contacted police and attended Gosford Police Station."

Police said Miss Embleton had been granted a temporary bridging visa and no further police action would be taken.

Her father Norman Embleton, from Harpenden, Hertfordshire, said he had still not been able to talk to her and did not know where she was staying.
