A MOTORCYCLIST was killed after a collision which left his passenger seriously ill in hospital.

The male rider from the Huddersfield area died instantly from the injuries he suffered in the crash involving a car, which happened at 4pm yesterday in Alder Street in Fartown.

His female passenger was rushed to hospital with serious and multiple injuries.

She remains in a critical condition at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Pc Dave Briggs, from Huddersfield Traffic Police, said: “The rider of the motorcyclist sadly suffered fatal injuries in the collision.

“We don’t yet know what caused the collision and who, if anyone, is to blame or how it occurred.

“Investigations are continuing and we would appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact us.”

It is believed the motorcyclist, riding a Honda Fireblade, was travelling along Alder Street near to its junction with Flint Street.

It was in collision with a red Ford Fiesta which is believed to have pulled out of Flint Street and into the path of the oncoming motorcyclist.

The driver of the car suffered no injuries but was treated for shock.

Police think there were several pedestrians in the area at the time of the accident.
