Huddersfield Town legend Andy Booth was renowned for cutting through opposing teams’ defences.

But on Thursday it was a purple ribbon he cut through at the opening of Peters new department store in The Pack Horse Centre.

Owners Caroline and David Whittle decided it was time for a fresh start after more than 32 years in King Street where they earned a much-deserved reputation for the quality of their goods as well as service.

Peters opened in 1982 thanks to the efforts of the late Peter Whittle of the famous Whittle family who ran Kayes department store, quite possibly the best-known store the town has ever had. David and Caroline decided to move after running costs become prohibitive at King Street and a general feeling that the store had become ‘tired’. David said it was an exciting time for the store which now boasts a separate coffee shop, Coffee Mill.
