HUDDERSFIELD Town assistant manager Terry Yorath is looking forward to the best year of his life - when he becomes a grandad for the first time.

The former Leeds and Wales captain, who last year escaped jail after knocking down a woman while drink-driving, is "over the moon" after his TV sports presenter daughter Gabby Logan said she was expecting twins with her husband, Scots rugby union player Kenny, 32.

Gabby, 31, is three months' pregnant and the news has thrilled her proud dad, who is now preparing to welcome his first grandchildren.

The 54-year-old coach says he can't wait to babysit after a difficult year.

The thrilled father-of-three said: "We are absolutely delighted with this news. I was told two weeks ago and there were a few tears.

"These will be my first grandchildren and we are now hoping everything goes well for Gabby."

Mr Yorath was three times over the limit at the time of last August's drink-drive accident in Leeds.

He was given a 12-month rehabilitation order and a 30-month driving ban after pleading guilty to drink-driving and careless driving.

Cardiff-born Mr Yorath, who lives in Leeds, admitted 2004 had been difficult, but he is now looking forward to the rest of 2005.

He said 2005 was "going to be a really great. I have no idea what it is going to be like becoming a grandad, but I am looking forward to babysitting and all that stuff.

"We are all very happy for Gabby and Kenny. They are delighted and have just returned from a holiday in Barbados.

"They have been trying for children for quite a while.

""My wife, Christine, is over the moon and is really looking forward to Gabby's new arrivals. Everyone is going to have their hands full."

Mr Yorath, whose university- bound son Jordan celebrated his 19th birthday last week, added: "Gabby is thrilled and I know she wants to keep on working after giving birth."

Proud dad-to-be Kenny said yesterday: "We are both over the moon.

"We are very excited and hope everything is going to be well."
