A BRAVE shopkeeper foiled a robbery then attacked the thieves' car as they drove off.

Two masked men went into Costcutter on Leeds Road in Bradley at 9.45pm last night, threatened the owner with a knife and demanded cash.

But the victim shouted so loud at the would-be thieves, they ran back out.

They jumped into a silver Ford Focus with a getaway driver waiting at the wheel.

But the shopkeeper had grabbed a cricket bat, and as the thieves sped away he smashed the car's rear window.

The car's registration number started MJ54 - or something similar.

Det Con Paul Hutchinson, of Kirklees Police intelligence unit, said: "The shopkeeper was very courageous to stop the crime.

"The car has a smashed back window and if anyone has seen it or knows where it is they are urged to contact us."

The knifeman was described as Asian, in his late 20s to early 30s, 5ft 6in tall and stocky with a bald head and large nose.

He wore a long sandy- coloured coat and black mask.

The other thief was also Asian, aged 17 to 20, 5ft 7in, with black hair and wore black clothes and a black face covering.

The driver was a white man, aged 17 to 20, with light-coloured hair.

Anyone with information should contact Kirklees CID in Dewsbury on 01924 431082 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
