A TEAM from Huddersfield University could be representing Britain at a European trade skills competition after triumphing in their UK heat.

Fashion students Katy Holgreaves, 19, and Katie-Ann Eardley, 20, beat nine British teams at Glasgow Cardonald University’s Euroskills last month.

Now the duo will battle one final UK team in Warwickshire for a chance to face trade teams from across Europe at Euroskills in Rotterdam next year.

To reward their efforts and talent so far, the two teams will be learning top tips during industry visits at Debenhams and Hobbs in London.

And their portfolios will be reviewed by leading tailor – Imtaz Khaliq whose clients include Michelle Pfeiffer and supermodel Tatjana Patitz.

Linda Florance, Chief Executive of Skillfast-UK, said: “This competition has been a great exercise in showcasing the wealth of talented, young, up-and-coming designers we are lucky to have here in the UK.

“The UK is home to some of the world’s most creative design talent, but it is very important that these creative skills are matched by top-notch technical ability, something that EuroSkills is very keen to promote.”

Skillfast-UK and UK Skills, a not-for-profit organisation that champions skills and learning for work, worked together to organise the UK entry into the competition.
