MOTORISTS using Wakefield Road to make their way out of Huddersfield on Friday evening faced delays due to a burst water main.

The burst, which happened just after 3.30pm, was on the section between the junctions of Somerset Road and Smithy Lane.

Engineers managed to shut off the leak around two hours later but engineers worked on it until around 8pm.

Long tailbacks built up to the Shorehead Roundabout as cars heading out of Huddersfield town centre got jammed.

The area is notorious for water main problems - with five serious breaches over the past few years - including the one pictured in March 2010.
