A HUDDERSFIELD man killed in a railway station tragedy has been named.

Hugh McSherry, who was 20, died when he was hit by an express at Mirfield station at 9.20pm last Wednesday night.

Mr McSherry, the son of Hugh and Mary McSherry, was one of eight children and lived on Wakefield Road at Dalton.

In a statement his parents said: “Hugh was a typical 20-year-old man. He was an important part of a very close family, much loved by his parents, sisters and brother. He enjoyed his work and spending time with his many friends.

“This tragic accident is now a private matter for the immediate family, who are grateful to the emergency services for their work and police family liaison officers for their help.’’

Mr McSherry’s funeral at noon on Thursday will be a requiem mass at the English Martyrs’ RC Church in Dalton. It will be followed by committal at Huddersfield Crematorium at 1.30pm.
