TRAVELLERS who set up camp in a Mirfield park have moved on.

The news delighted residents living near Knowl Park, who had feared the 30 caravans and lorries would be there for days.

But a local councillor revealed a lot of mess had been left behind, which would cost money to clean up.

Clr Martyn Bolt said: “There is all sorts of waste been left behind, with rubbish strewn all over the park.

“The council will have to foot the bill to clean it up and in the meantime, local families cannot let their kids play in the park.

“But the good news is they have moved on. Perhaps they did not like Mirfield.”

The travellers arrived in the park last Thursday, having been evicted from fields in Cleckheaton.

Kirklees Council had intended seeking an eviction order from Huddersfield County Court later this week.
