Travellers have moved on to playing fields in Salendine Nook.

The caravans were spotted last night and come just weeks after a court order to remove travellers illegally camped on the nearby Salendine Nook High School Academy grounds.

The latest group has more than eight caravans and is pitched on a playing field near a children’s play area off New Hey Road close to the Total garage.

Police were called this morning and Neighbourhood Police Officers have spoken with the travellers. No enforcement action has been taken by police and Kirklees Council, which are responsible for illegal travellers, has been made aware of the situation.

Earlier this month Irish travellers moved 10 caravans and several other vehicles onto playing fields outside Salendine Nook High School Academy.

An order to evict them was granted days later at the High Court in Leeds giving the travellers a further few days to leave.

Neighbours of the school site had previously complained about travellers leaving rubbish and using the campus as an outdoor toilet.
