More travellers have set up camp on another site in Huddersfield.

A handful of caravans and wagons have parked up on a car park at the rear of the former Almondbury BMW garage between Wakefield Road and Somerset Road.

Part of the former showroom site is now home to the DW Fitness Club which fronts on to Wakefield Road.

One local resident said: “They arrived on Saturday evening, with about six caravans and a few wagons. I don’t know if there were any barriers to stop them getting on to the site”.

It is the latest in a series of incidents involving travellers in Huddersfield.

Council officials and police are due to serve an eviction notice on a group who camped on a football pitch at Celandine Avenue, Salendine Nook.

That order was obtained last week and will be served on the group on Monday afternoon.

Earlier a group of travellers had been camped on land adjoining the Greenway at Bradley but they left in the middle of last week.

Councillors have called on Kirklees Council, to examine security at sites around the area.

And there have been concerns at the costs incurred in seeking court orders and in clearing up after the travellers.
