Thousands of families tucked into treats galore at the Holmfirth Food and Drink Festival.

And there was something for everyone with more than 60 stalls scattered around the town.

Cupcakes, meats, speciality coffees and ales featured at the 9th festival held in Holmfirth.

There was also brewery tours, cookery demonstrations and live music throughout the weekend.

Among those enjoying the food was the Hutchinson family from Honley – John and Lorna and their children Joseph, six, and Abbie, nine.

Lorna said: “We’ve probably given the children way too much sugary food, but it’s one weekend a year to do something great like this.

“We’ve been socialising with neighbours and parents of children at the same school as ours and that’s something we rarely do, so it shows what a great community event it is.”

The couple said their highlight was sampling local beers they’d never had before, while for the children they loved the frosting on the cupcakes.

John added: “I think out of convenience we tend to buy what we know so this weekend has opened up other options and it’s great they are local options too. I’ll definitely buy some of these beers again.”

Sue and Al Jenkins, of Meltham, were indulging in some Holme Valley Fine Foods classic sweets with Al saying: “I’ve had rhubarb and custard boiled sweets that I’ve not had for donkey’s years. Love it.”

Sue added confessed that she’s also bought some sweets to package up for family Christmas presents.

Visitors came from Greenfield, Barnsley and Rastrick for the all-weekend festival.
